1-11-92: Leshko's Coffee Shop & Home Cooking, NYC (w/Siân Killingsworth & Polina Grinbaum)

Yes that is the full title of this bad poem brought to us by not one but two authors! Siân and Polina come on the show share a bit about their friendship and what may have been the magic combination of time and place to produce this delightful work. From their love of food to their propensity towards the dramatic, the conversation never falters as they paint the picture of a Eastern European coffee shop occupied by two college freshman, bad coffee, and a fight brewing against "THE MAN." Season 2 Bloopers and Outtakes

With Dave in Ohio (!) of all places and the season nearly wrapped, it seemed as good a time as any to drop our Season two outtakes reel. This time with guests!! Enjoy a mix of laughter and insight found from the cutting room floor, full of daughter interruptions and even a dropped call. Thanks to all the guests who gave their time to laugh with us. Here's to many more. Guest List: Kelli Russel Agodon, Raegen Pietrucha, Shiksha Dheda, Nicole Tallman, Mitchell Nobis, Jasper Fforde, Lannie Stabile,...

The lowered face

Aaron's former self was so confident in the concept of this poem he even decided to leave the title in lower case. Dave and Aaron finish the poems from the second typed anthology of the Wolf journal poems and they couldn't be happier to turn the page on this collection of "sad boy songs." Santa Came & Time Is the Devourer of All Things (w/Terri Linn Davis)

We didn't intend to have a Christmas in July episode, but Santa showed up anyway... Terri Linn Davis brings her playfully horrific style to the show... just shall we say...lacking in the playful department with these early drafts. Dave gets to brush off his Latin and Aaron confuses Phoebe Bridgers for Phoebe Cates when talking about Gremlins, but of all the things in this episode, that might be the least upsetting. If you want to play along with the second poem here are the prompts that produce...

The Tie

Dave and Aaron discuss a depressing collection of words, both in its subject matter and composition. A more pessimistic side of Aaron's previous self rears its ugly head in this poem about life, and death, and face paint? The List & Adam's Apple (w/Lannie Stabile)

Lannie Stabile joins Dave and Aaron to share a whole list of things, from her love of Ludo to her knowledge of plus-size chapbooks and TMNTs. Hear Dave fear for his co-host gig and Aaron attempt to keep everyone somewhat on track, as Lannie fits right in following the hosts down rabbit holes and fun side adventures, many of which were simply cut for time. Double Trouble, and Twice as Nice (w/ Jasper Fforde)

Dave and Aaron find themselves talking to one of their shared favorite authors and yes... we are as surprised as everyone else. Jasper Fforde brings his wit and wisdom to the show while sharing some of his poems that are far superior to the works of Aaron's old Wolf Journal. Much like his novels, the episode is smattered with references that range from Kafka and Lewis Carol, to Bonanza and The Clash. Jasper Ffordes latest novel The Great Troll War from the Last Dragonslayer Chronicles is availa...

The Cry

A desensitized and demoralized duo look to understand the mind of a teenager in 2006 all while Aaron sounds like he is recording in a tin can. Aaron also tries and fails miserably at remember the name of a band at about the 10 minute mark. It is in fact Hawthorne Heights (specifically their song "Ohio is for Lovers". For other 00's emo/screamo recommendations (?) feel free to reach out to the show. My Bad Poetry 2.16: "The Cry" End Poem from a Real Poet: "Thoughts in a Jail" by Katharine Rolst...

Gas Station Roses & Harvest (w/Mitchell Nobis)

With Dave unable to make the recording do to work, Mitch and Aaron soldier on through some... really bad poems. Whether or not they were trying to emulate gasoline infused roses or a manure covered country side one could say these poems stick. Mitch has nobly dug deep into the archives of his past collections to find what perhaps should have remained well hid. Bitter Bitter & Complicated (w/Nicole Tallman)

Nicole Tallman brings pages of her high school journal to the show demonstrating a "Emily Dickenson" phase in her writing career. With hurricane briefings and further meetings limiting their time together one can only hope there are more signed copies of old poems to go around. My Bad Poetry Episode 2.14: "Bitter Bitter"* and "Complicated"* (w/Nicole Tallman) *Untitled in their original form. "Friend"

Aaron and Dave speed through what may be the pinnacle of Aaron's piney private "poetry", that or it's darkest valley (they landed on the latter). From a late lunch to an early out, this time crunched episode really makes you wonder what they talk about when the episode tapings run long. My Bad Poetry Episode 2.13: "Friend" End "Poem" from "Real" Poets: "It's Gonna be Me" by Andreas Mikael Carlsson, Martin Max, and Rami Yacoub... also Dave's honorary mention "Friend is a Four Letter Word" by Jo...

A setting sun & Grey Palette (w/Shiksha Dheda)

Shiksha stumps Dave and Aaron with what may be the first "bad" poem that neither could say anything bad about...luckily she had more to share! From her style to some of her struggles and everything in between, Shiksha carries that conversation and convinces the hosts that there is more to grey than meets the eye. 1 Hour and 23 Seconds

Contrary to the title, this poem does not take long to read, nor is this episode that length. But if it was would you still listen? Thoughts

Dave and Aaron return to the Wolf Journal for another of Aaron's high school poems. They were not sure how they felt about this one...or more accurately what they thought about it.
